Ko Lanta March 2013

Day 3

Today we decided to move to another resort as we found one that was better value for money. At Hutyee we were paying 600 baht/£13/$20 a night for a fan bungalow with wifi solely available in the reception area. We found the Blue Andaman Lanta Resort where there were air conditioned rooms, with wifi accessible everywhere, a swimming pool, a restaurant and a bar overlooking the beach.

We checked in at 11am and were shown to our rooms which were much more modern than the previous bungalows and were more like standard hotel rooms.

After check in we went straight to the pool for a bit then had lunch at the hotel restaurant.

There was a waterfall on the island that was recommended to us so we went to check it out with these 2 other Canadian guys Ryan and Ryan the other girls had met previously on another island. We decided to rent scooters as its a great way to see the island and much more economical than any other type of transportation. At the resort it costs 200 baht/£4.50/$6.70 for 12 hours and 250 baht/£5.60/$8.40 for 24 hours which I think is a pretty standard price at most motorbike rental places, that are all over the island. A passport is taken as insurance, you need to buy the fuel yourself and any damage is paid for by you.

If you decide to take a tuk tuk to the waterfall it would cost you around 1500 baht/£33/$50 round trip. On the other hand if you went with a tour transportation would most likely be covered in the price of the tour.

So we put on our helmets on and rode off. We saw a lot of the island by riding the scooters, so many more restaurants, beach bars, resorts, bungalows and stores than I expected. It took us about 20 minutes to get to the forest that leads to the waterfall. We parked up and paid 20 baht/£0.45/$0.67 for the costs of keeping the path tidy. It was about a 1.2km sweaty walk uphill and downhill which didn't seem worth it once we got to the waterfall if you can even call it that. A trickle of water is a more accurate description of what we saw. We realised after that it was dry season so there evidently wasn't much water thus the waterfall failed to look like several of the photos we had seen previously. Nevertheless it was a nice day out.

We then found a nice beach bar/restaurant and got a late lunch of green curry and rice, pad Thai, prawn fried rice, salads and stir fried noodles along with Chang, Leo and Singhai. After we made it home, a nap, shower, dinner and drinks commenced until the wee hours of the morning.
