Niagra July 2013

Today myself and my 5 friends went to Niagra to do a wine tour. Niagra Falls is a pretty tacky and run down place, the only good thing about the area is the Falls. There are a lot of chain restaurants, bars, hotels, motels, breakfast places and a casino.

Wine tours are a very popular thing to do in Niagra. There are several wine tours in the area, we went with Grape Escape Wine Tour. It's $75/£47/€55 and you get picked up from wherever you are in Niagra so Grape Escape picked us up from our hotel. The tour is about 5 hours long and you visit 4 vineyards and taste 4 different wines at each vineyard. We had a 45 minute tour of one vineyard and a wine tasting, then just wine tasting at the other vineyards. There is also several opportunities to buy wine at each of the vineyards.
If you ever go on a wine tour in Canada and you are a fan of sweet wine like me then you have to try a Canadian dessert wine called Ice Wine. It's incredibly sweet and expensive at $20/€14/£12 for 200ml but totally worth it.

After the tour we were pretty tipsy and made our way back to our hotel. We relaxed for a bit then went to the Falls. They were pretty magnificent, there is an American side and Canadian side. The Canadian side is way better, we just looked from up above but you can take a boat tour on the water to get closer to the falls.
Next we went to dinner then to the only nightclub in Niagra Falls, Dragonfly. It's $20/€14/£12 to get in and it's totally not worth it. If you really want to go to a nightclub then this is the place to go although you need to be heavily intoxicated to withstand the music and constant pushing and shoving. After the club closed at 3am we headed to the casino as one of my friends wanted to try her hand at Black Jack and Roulette. Both were unsuccessful, next we headed back to our hotel to get some beauty sleep.

The next day 3 of us went to a Blue Jays baseball game. I'd never been to one before so I was pretty excited then I realised that baseball is simply rounders. I still enjoyed myself nevertheless, it was pretty hot that day and we were pretty high up in the stands so got a good overall view.  We got to the game an hour late so we were there for about 3 hours, then went home and relaxed for the rest of the day. Blue Jays tickets vary depending on where you sit, we were sitting pretty high up so our tickets were $16/€11/£10. Other seats closer to the pitch will naturally be dearer.
