New York August 2013

Today was our last full day in New York and we decided to go Brooklyn. We went to the Brooklyn Flea Market on Lafayette Street, its in a school car park and huge. There are several vendors selling clothes, vintage and new, glasses, jewellery, furniture, shoes and a few stalls at the back selling food and drink. I got a vintage black leather pocketbook style bag, and another lobster roll and real lemonade. On the way out we passed a church selling items for their church from furniture to bric a brac, tableware and jewellery. We were in an area called Clinton Hill and got a bus to Williamsburg and stumbled upon Bedford Avenue which reminded me of Portobello Road a lot. There were several stores selling clothes, new and vintage, pubs, bars and brunch places also. It's a pretty cool and trendy area, I'd recommend going if you ever go to Brooklyn.

After Bedford Avenue we got the subway back to Manhattan, Chelsea specifically and made our way back to our hotel which ended being another 45 minute walk. Whilst passing Times Square on the way, we must have walked through Times Square on a daily basis. It is actually like all the films, tv shows and pictures you have seen before. Several bright light advertisements, stores and restaurants including Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesdays, Forever 21, American Outfitters, Polo Ralph Lauren and The Hard Rock Cafe. Times Square is really the area that never sleeps, no matter what time you are in Times Square it is always busy with people and street performers in addition to touts selling comedy shows and bus tours.

We then went back to our hotel for a rest. We came back out in the evening and went to the Rockefeller Centre cafe/bar for a drink. This area is used for the skating rink in winter and a restaurant in the summer. It was a nice balmy evening with a nice view of the Rockefeller Centre and magnificent water fountain. On the way the back to the hotel we walked through Bryant Park which is where several fashion shows are held during New York fashion week, otherwise its just a normal park with men playing chess and people relaxing.
