Amsterdam 10th December 2010

We woke up at about 8am so that we could leave at 9am to see the house of Anne Frank. We got dressed and went downstairs for our free breakfast which consisted of juice, toast or cereal. We used our map and walked to the Anne Frank House which was on Prinsengract which was about a 20-25 minute walk from our hostel, I would recommend walking as much as you can in Amsterdam as most things are nearby plus you get to see more when you walk. The Anne Frank House costs €9 or €4.50 if you are between 10-17 years, those under 10 only have to pay €0.50. You can buy tickets online and print them or buy them on the day. I would recommend purchasing your tickets in advance if you are visiting Amsterdam in the tourist season and if you are going in the afternoon or if there is a group of you. We went early in the day so there wasn't much of a queue so we didn't buy our tickets online. The House's opening times vary depending on the time of year.

The House was very informative but sad at the same time, you may want to do some research on Anne Frank before you go just so that you are aware of the history behind her. I didn't and had so many questions after the tour. It took about an hour to finish the tour of the House. From the House we walked to the Heineken Experience, which was about another 20-25 minute walk in the direction we had just came from. I would highly recommend going to the Heineken Experience even if you are not that interested in beer as I don't even like beer but I found the Experience very interesting and fun.

Again you can purchase tickets online but we didn't see the need and passed on that. The tickets cost €16 which I thought was a bit steep but was definitely worth it. The Experience is about 3 hours and you get to taste some of the beer, see how it is made, see the different advertising campaigns throughout the decades and how it started many moons ago until now. The Experience is open 7 days a week from 11am-7pm. After the Experience we went souvenir and clothes shopping then got some food at Wok to Walk which has the most AMAZING food which you have to try! It's a fast food restaurant where you can get noodles or rice then you add meat or vegetables of your choice plus a sauce. It's pretty healthy and you can tailor it exactly the way you want, it is also reasonably priced and will you fill you up immensely :)

After dinner we went back to the hostel for a nap then went to the German market and got a bratwurst hot dog and then went to an Irish bar for drinks. After a few drinks we went back to the hostel and went to bed as we were leaving the next day :(

That is my short but sweet account of my time in Amsterdam, I'll be back and so should you! :)
