Barrio Chino June 2013

Today Corrie and I made our way to Barrio Chino aka Chinatown. It's quite new, perhaps only became prominent in the last few years and located in Belgrano.

If you are going to Barrio Chino from Palermo the easiest and fastest way is by Subte on Linea D to Juramento. Then its about a 10 minute walk from the station. Follow Juramento street where the street numbers are descending. You will come to some train tracks and after you cross those you will see the Barrio Chino gate on your left. Barrio Chino only runs for about 4 blocks but it has all you need in it.

It's the same as any other Barrio Chino but makes a nice change and its weird seeing so much oriental things in the middle of South America. In addition to the Mandarin being spoken alongside Spanish. There are Chinese several restaurants, although no buffets, some Thai and Taiwanese restaurants, sushi places, Chinese supermarkets, street food and several shops selling several nic nacs.

We got some food at a nearby restaurant, Chinese food is also cheaper here than anywhere else in the city, naturally. If you do eat at a restaurant in Barrio Chino make sure you don't go hungry as they like to take their time. I got special fried rice which was the size of a house, Corrie got fried pork strips in a sauce and we shared some gyozas.

We walked around, bought some goods from the supermarket, sushi and made our way home after another fun day out.
