Mendoza April 2014

On our second day which was a Sunday we weren't sure what to do before our bus journey as there isn't much to do in the city of Mendoza.

After we checked out we went for a wander to some of the different plazas and we came across a tour bus going to Parque General San Martin which is a large park in Mendoza which we wanted to go to. The tour was an hour and a half which we thought would kill at bit of time and was 45 pesos/£3.30/€4/$5.60.

The tour guide told you lots of information about Mendoza and the park but it was all in Spanish so if you don't speak Spanish I wouldn't recommend it. There are some really good views of greenery and mountains as we got to the top of the park as some areas of it are hilly.

After the tour we had lunch and wanted to find a wine shop that was open as on Sundays most places are closed. We found one wine shop that was open that actually did tasting also. We were told a bit of the history of the bodega and tasted several wines, some reds, rose, whites and champagne. There were at least 12 wines we tasted and it was a bit much for me to be honest. This tasting was shockingly only 30 pesos/£2.20/€2.70/$3.75.

After the tasting we somehow made it back to the hostel. We had a few hours until our bus and we decided to go to the cinema, once we got to the cinema which was in a shopping centre we actually missed the showing we wanted. We ended up going to another tasting as there was a Trapiche store in the shopping centre.

At Trapiche they actually asked us what wines we wanted to taste as opposed to telling us so we chose a Malbec, a blend of Malbec and Cabernet and a unique sweet Malbec. The guy was very nice and very passionate about wine which helps. The tasting was free but we bought a bottle of wine for 100 pesos/£7.40/€9/$12.50.

After the copious amounts of wine we had consumed before sunset we decided to get some food then head back to the hostel to get our luggage and make our way back to the bus station. Back to Buenos Aires we go.
