Hotel Nacional Havana September 2012
Hotel Nacional de Cuba
Hotel Nacional de Cuba is one of the oldest hotels in Havana and was built on Mafia money before the Revolution. Several famous people have stayed there including Naomi Campbell, Nat King Cole, Kate Moss etc.
It's now a 5 star hotel located on El Malecon and four blocks from La Rampa. I stayed here my last 2 nights in Havana. Single rooms are 120CUC/$120/£74 per night and double rooms are 170CUC/$170/£105 per night. The hotel is very grand and opulent from the entrance which is lined with palm trees and lobby which includes reception, Cubatur, currency exchange, public relations, nightly shows and a postcard shop.

There is also a business centre which offers internet connection but at a higher rate than the other hotels in Havana. You can purchase wifi for 12 hours for 10CUC/$10/£6 and 24 hours for 20CUC/$20/£12.

All rooms are equipped with desks, double beds, LCD tv with cable, scales, mini bar, closet, safety deposit box and telephone. The hotel offers a Cabaret Parisien every night. It's 30CUC/$30/£18 OR 50CUC/$50/£31 including dinner. It runs from 10pm-12am but if you're not having dinner get there at 9pm to get a good seat.

The show is in Spanish but its still fun and the dancing, singing and costumes are very glamourous. It's not a must see but if you find yourself at a loss for things to do one evening and have a spare 30CUC give it a chance.

Breakfast was included in our room price. It's a buffet breakfast including scrambled and boiled eggs, chorizo, vast selection of sweet and savoury breads, salad, fruit, juices and cereal. Along with an omelette maker with ingredients of your choice.
